Tuesday Treasure

Good Morning My Friends.
Yesterday I folded and organized some of my quilts.
Some of these beauties were made by my Mamaw,
Grandmother, Aunt and Cousin.

True treasures.

I found this poem I thought I'd share with you.
I loved it.

A Treasure
by Mildred Hatfield

Its more than a coverlet,
More than a spread,
This beautiful quilt
That graces my bed.

Its laughter and sorrow,
It's pleasure and pain,
It's small bits and pieces
Of sunshine and rain.

It's a bright panorama
Of scraps of my life-
It's moments of glory,
It's moments of strife.

It's a story I cherish
Of days that have been,
It's a door I can open
To live them again.

Yes ,it's more than a cover,
This much treasured quilt,
It's parts pieced together
Of the life I have built.

Love the poem - I wish I had more family treasures. Except for a few pieces of furniture and some photographs, there isn't much. I do have the quilt my grandmother made for our wedding.
Stay warm!

I have been blessed with handmade quilts by my Granny. Growing up we always had quilts on the bed, never blankets. Hand quilted too. I have also collected some orphans I have found in antique shops. I hate to see a woman's hard work and love sit lonesome and unloved on a shelf. I consider it my duty to rescue them. Don't the colors just make your heart sing?

Beautiful poem, and beautiful Quilts. I think quilts are my favorite thing. I have 2 that were made in 1847 by (one of my great-don't know how many greats) grandmother. I wish I had some of my Family alive so I knew for sure. I tried to quilt, but it didn't quite work out.I will have to send you some pics of them. Hope you are staying warm Trace. Hugs,
Linda
