Big Joe You Will Be Missed

Hello Friends!
Sadly my favorite Rooster "Big Joe" was killed yesterday. Along with a few other chickens.
Big Joe and Moses had a bad fight last Friday. Big Joe was a mess and I was keeping him separate from the others till he healed. When I went to feed him he flew out.
Yesterday was a very cold and breezy day with occasional snow showers. I went out to feed my critters when I saw feathers everywhere.
Mr. Mean Ole Fox has done this many times thru the past four years and it never gets easier.
Oh how I will miss you Big Joe!

Thank you Shirlee Friend for the sweet chicken fabric. What perfect timing.
It made me smile on a very sad day!
God is Good!

Woolie Love

Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

  1. Oh Trace, I am so sorry to hear about your chickens and Big Joe. We had the same problem with coyotes and had to build a pen around the hen house. It is hard to have free range chickens when you live in the country. Better safe than sorry, start on that pen.
I love all the nice fabric you received. Can't wait to see what you make with it.

  3. Aww..sorry Trace for losing Big Joe. When we kept chickens it was the same thing except we had problems with coyote & weasel. One night I awakened to a ruckus, grabbed the spotlight and actually seen the coyote up in the woods with my hen in it's mouth. I guess it comes with living in the "wilds". Hugs to you..Traci
P.S. love the fabrics from Shirlee

  4. Big hugs to you my friend. We of course don't have any critters except for Sophie but we do enjoy feeding the birds. We've never had any problems but a cute little woodpecker used to visit us all the time. One day John saw him at the back feeder & within a few seconds he looked out & didn't see him anymore but did see the neighbor's cat focusing his attention on the ground. This saddened us very much so I can imagine how sad it is for you to have lost such close friends as Big Joe & the others.

  7. I am sad for you Trace. What do you do in a case like this? We have coyote hunters here that keep them down, but do you shoot the fox? Big Joe was a handsome fella for sure. I bet he's kickin' back in a henhouse lined with gold right about now - no worries anymore Trace. ~*~Lisa

    1. I am so sorry to hear about Joe, he looks exactly like our rooster! We have lost quite a few chickens over the past couple of years due to coyotes and scavengers/hawks...sadly it's always my roosters that get killed the most and it never gets easier. Love you cute chicken material :) Have a wonderful night,
      hugs, Trish
